If you're currently using Delphi 2007 or earlier and have been considering upgrading to Delphi XE2 or RAD Studio XE2, you only have until January 31 to get the upgrade price. Starting February 1 you have to pay the new user price to get XE2. If you upgrade by January 31st, you also qualify for the BOGO offer and get a second tool or equal or lesser value free.

Upgrade to XE2 from any earlier version through December 30th

Re-posting this on my blog now that it's officially announced...

We've had a good number of older version Delphi users (and C++Builder and Borland Developer Studio users) asking if there is any way they can get the upgrade price to move to XE2 because they're really excited about what's new in XE2 like 64-bit Delphi, and the ability to create native applications for Windows and Mac from single source in Delphi and C++Builder with FireMonkey, and the new mobile support with iOS in Delphi/FireMonkey, DataSnap mobile connectors, and RadPHP targeting iOS and Android.

Usually only version 2007 and later users qualify for upgrade pricing, but we got approval to extend upgrade pricing to all earlier version users of Delphi, C++Builder and BDS.

That means if you own any earlier paid version of Delphi, C++Builder, RAD Studio, or BDS, back to version 1.0, you qualify for upgrade pricing until December 30th.

The Embarcadero online stores have been updated with the limited time change in the upgrade policy. The same is available if you buy through an Embarcadero sales rep or reseller partner.

Here are the upgrade options by edition. You can upgrade your individual product or move up to RAD Studio and you can move up by one or more editions to get additional functionality:

Any version Pro or Turbo Pro users --> Delphi, C++Builder or RAD Studio Pro/Ent
Any version Ent users --> Delphi, C++Builder or RAD Studio Pro/Ent/Ult/Arch
Any version Arch users --> Delphi, C++Builder or RAD Studio Pro/Ent/Ult/Arch

In addition to getting the upgrade price, you also get FastCube and additional database tools up to $2,935 in value free.

Update 1 for Delphi XE2, C++Builder XE2 and RAD Studio XE2 is now available.

Here's the official announcement:

Update 1 for Delphi and C++Builder XE2 is now available. This update includes more than 120 bug fixes and addresses an important licensing issue.

We were recently made aware that some code in the 3D support in FireMonkey may be similar to code in GLScene, an MPL open source project. We worked with Eric Grange, a key contributor to the GLScene project to remedy the issue and replace the code in question. This update replaces the code in question and therefore it is highly recommended that you rebuild any applications compiled with the original FireMonkey units using this update.

If you have created any FireMonkey 3D applications, you will need to rebuild those applications using the updated version of Delphi or C++Builder to ensure that your applications have a valid redistributable license.

Also included in this update are over 120 bug fixes, including many FireMonkey design time and runtime bug fixes, the addition of new VCL Styles, VCL Styles design time and runtime fixes, IDE fixes to improve stability, C++ and Delphi compiler fixes and more.

Delphi surpasses two million users as momentum continues to grow

San Francisco, CA August 15, 2011

Developers around the world continue to invest in Delphi®, according to Embarcadero Technologies, which announced today that the Delphi community now exceeds two million users worldwide, making it the second largest Windows developer community after Microsoft. Additionally, Delphi sales have steadily grown by 15 percent year-over-year since 2008, when Embarcadero acquired Delphi as part of its acquisition of the CodeGear product line from Borland Software. Embarcadero just announced a new Delphi Certification Program with two levels of Delphi certification - Delphi Developer Certification and Delphi Master Developer Certification.

We're celebrating the launch of the new certification program by offering a free Delphi Developer Certification exam to most registered users of Delphi XE and RAD Studio XE. You just need to request a free test code by July 31, 2011 and then take the exam within 90 days of getting your test code.

You can get the free code by going to the Delphi Developer Certification page and clicking the link for the free test offer under Step 2. Be sure to also see the other steps including Step 1 with the Study Guide so you can get ready for the exam. If you don't pass the first time, you'll have to pay to take the exam again.

There are some rules, restrictions and exclusions listed on the certification web page and on the page where you enter your registered Delphi XE or RAD Studio XE serial number to get the free exam.

Upgrade pricing for v2006 and earlier users ends Tuesday

We recently re-opened the upgrade window to allow registered users of 2006 and earlier versions of Delphi, C++Builder and Borland Developer Studio to upgrade to the XE versions. If you have one of those older versions, you only have until end-of-day this coming Tuesday May 31, 2011 to buy at the upgrade price. After that you'll have to again pay the full new user price if you want to move to XE or a future version.

Remember you can also combine this eligibility with the Get RAD Studio at the Delphi/C++Builder price offer and pay just the Delphi or C++Builder upgrade price and get full RAD Studio XE with Delphi, C++Builder, Delphi Prism and RadPHP.

The $8.5 billion Delphi application - Microsoft to acquire Skype

One of my favorite applications built with Delphi is Skype for Windows. We use Skype here every day. It's been great to see the success of Skype and so many millions of users experiencing and relying on a Delphi application for their day to day communication.

Today Microsoft announced that they will be acquiring Skype for $8.5 billion. I think that makes Skype the most valuable Delphi application out there.

Of course there are also many other great applications built with Delphi and you can see some of them in the Embarcadero Delphi Application Showcase.

You can watch a video with David I that shows the new compiler and gives an introduction to 64-bit and some tips for Delphi developers.

SKU Cleanup for Old Versions of Delphi, C++Builder, Delphi Prism and RAD Studio

We’re working on a SKU cleanup project that will be taking effect byearly January. This will involve discontinuing part numbers for older product versions which can now be purchased as part of the latest XE versions.

The latest versions Delphi XE, C++Builder XE, Delphi Prism XE and RADStudio XE include access to older versions at no extra charge.

After the change, if you need a copy of Delphi 2010, you’ll justpurchase the latest version (Delphi XE) which includes free access to olderversion licenses and downloads including version 2010.

Here’s a list of what will be changing:

This change will mean the elimination of 922 SKUs which should make it significantly easier for people to find what they need when they’re making a purchase.
