Delphi 64-bit Compiler Sneak Preview and Beta - Official Announcement

The official Delphi 64-bit Compiler Sneak Preview is now available at: http://www.embarcadero.com/products/delphi/64-bit.

You can watch a video with David I that shows the new compiler and gives an introduction to 64-bit and some tips for Delphi developers.

You can also fill out a form to get more information on the 64-bit compiler as it becomes available and to apply for the beta so you can try out the new compiler for yourself. Current registered users of Delphi XE and RAD Studio XE will get priority access (meaning they got to the front of the list that we will be adding to the beta). We'll add non-XE users as space is available.

Here's what the invite email looks like.

This one is real unlike the DelphiTools blog April Fool's posting over the weekend.

Hope you enjoy the preview and let me know if you have any questions.

I believed you would have given priority to those with actual 64 bit systems to test upon .

64-bit is important for us, we'll get it regardless, but can this version really turn things around for Delphi? Unlikely, but good news nonetheless.

"Delphi XE and RAD Studio XE users get priority access to the beta program." - it doesn't matter how many versions you or your company purchased in the past. If you didn't puchase their XE version, you go to the back of the line. What a crock of horse crap! This is why EMBARCADERO SUCKS!

That is normal for limited beta programs. It's a privilege if you're invited. If not, you have no right to complain. I will be happy either way and very much looking forward to the new release!

Anonymous - yeah, such full of excrement is a policy of giving current customers preferential treatment. Plainly, someone who ponied up for XE should be behind those who bought D6 a decade ago, though obviously behind anyone else who religiously bought Turbo Pascal.

More seriously, since when has the category of 'XE purchaser' being something other than a subset of 'purchaser of several past versions'? I'm sure Embarcadero would love that to be the case, but I somehow doubt it is.

This probably isn't the place to ask. But will the next release include access to the previous versions again?

The SKU plans aren't final yet so I can't promise anything but I do expect the XE2 products to include access to previous versions.

@Tim.
You forgot not mention in signing up for the Beta it also requires signing an NDA. As I recall this requires the hassle of faxing or mailing the signed document/s back to EMBA in USA if its run like before?

As this is in my opinion a catch up release at best for the 64bit compilation/VCL that is YEARS late I fail to understand a real need for an NDA. I can think of a few other reasons why . I will wait and see if my suspicions are proved correct ;-)

I mentioned the NDA on the sneak preview web page. I didn't want to duplicate everything from that page in my blog post.

The NDA is required because it's not just a beta of the compiler, it's a beta of the full product with Mac OS X targeting and other new features that we aren't previewing or announcing yet.

We switched from faxed NDAs to a digital signature system a few years ago.

This is incredibly exciting!!!! It's not too late for me! Software is running fine on Windows 64 bit so far, but I'm sure my customers would be glad to see a 64 bit release maybe sometime within the next 12 months or so.

i really ths same as 64bit need :

1.full cross-platform (for me Linux)
2.better compiler base optimization

What I miss in the "What you can do today" sheet is converting your project to Delphi 2009-XE for Unicode support.

As far as I can see that will be more painfull than the 64 pointer changes

(It is probably also the reason that XE users will be choosen first)
