Free Delphi Developer Certification Test for Registered XE Users

Embarcadero just announced a new Delphi Certification Program with two levels of Delphi certification - Delphi Developer Certification and Delphi Master Developer Certification.

We're celebrating the launch of the new certification program by offering a free Delphi Developer Certification exam to most registered users of Delphi XE and RAD Studio XE. You just need to request a free test code by July 31, 2011 and then take the exam within 90 days of getting your test code.

You can get the free code by going to the Delphi Developer Certification page and clicking the link for the free test offer under Step 2. Be sure to also see the other steps including Step 1 with the Study Guide so you can get ready for the exam. If you don't pass the first time, you'll have to pay to take the exam again.

There are some rules, restrictions and exclusions listed on the certification web page and on the page where you enter your registered Delphi XE or RAD Studio XE serial number to get the free exam.

Disappointing that a free code goes to Delphi XE customers and not those of us who have been using and promoting Delphi for over 15 years, since Delphi 1.

@Jason - Many of us XE customers have used Delphi since version 1, and the TPW, BP, and TP products before that.

If I were to flippant - I could say that it would be disappointing that you are not using the latest version of Delphi?

What I find disappointing is the certification centers.

2 in Germany, 2 in Italy, 2 in "Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg," 2 in Russia, 8 in Brazil(!), but only one for the entire USA and Canada?!? And located in Texas, of all places? That's hardly a central location, or one known for computer programming.

I've got nothing against Cary Jensen; he's a great guy and his contributions to the community have been invaluable. But the Master Certification stuff sure makes it look like you have to show up on-site at the testing center, and that's just not practical for one of your largest market segments.

You really need one in California, one in Seattle, one in New York and one in the Midwest somwehere, at the very least.

Mason,

We are working in a number of different solutions for US/Canada, which will applies for the rest of the world.

If you decide to take the master test before we have the solution, please let me know.

There's a lot of users in Brazil and it is a big country... But I must admit, USA with only one, is weird... very very...

@Lars I actually own Delphi 2009 but due to an issue with one of our third-party components that won't upgrade to Unicode, I am still using Delphi 6.

No point upgrading further until we have crossed that bridge. Just need the time to do it.

All of that is irrelevant to my point, though.

@Jason - I don't intend to be rude and mean, and I apologize if I come across as such - but is it really irrelevant?

I don't find it unnatural that Embarcadero reward those that have found it worth spending on keeping up to date. It doesn't make you less of a customer - but - seeing it from a marketing perspective, it makes more sense to reward those that get the latest hotness, rather than those that stay with the old and trusted. Also - bear in mind that some of the certification material may focus on stuff that was added in 2009, 2010 and XE.

That said - it would have been a nice gesture to offer the certification to all Delphi users.

@Lars - I actually agree with you, it wouldn't have been economically viable to offer the certification for free to all registered Delphi users (of any version), as it's only Delphi users who will want the certification.

And I also agree with your point that some of the test will be about newer features and technologies.

That said, maybe a discount for users who have clearly been registered for such a long time might have been a nice gesture. Like you, I go way back with Borland products, have a Delphi blog and have written half a dozen or so magazine articles (back in the day when The Delphi Informant and The Delphi Magazine were alive). Some recognition would have been appreciated. Not only for me personally, but for those of us who have been loyal (through adversity) and made the effort to speak out.

Does anyone know if you can get the free certification offer if you are on All Access?

We have Delphi XE through All Access but I can't find an appropriate serial number to enter into the redemption box.
