74% of developers have had challenges using HTML5 and JavaScript to deliver mobile apps

Here's the last in a series of results highlights from the recent developer survey sponsored by Embarcadero.

Software developers reported a number of challenges when using HTML5 and JavaScript rather than native solutions to deliver mobile apps. Something that isn't shown here but that we also saw in the data was the more experience the developer had with creating mobile apps, the more they reported challenges with the scripting language based mobile development solutions. RAD Studio and Delphi users know that with the new XE5 versions, they can create true native, script-free apps for both Android and iOS while leveraging their Windows development skills and code.

That's not what the infographic shows; it just asks about challenges using HTML5 and Javascript. It certainly doesn't ask about, say, challenges using FireMonkey, which would be a direct comparison. It also doesn't define "challenges" or distinguish the severity of those challenges. In short, it's a marketing-focused survey question rather than a research-oriented question. It tells you what you want to hear rather than what you need to know.

This is axiomatic; obviously the longer you use something the more chance one has of running into a problem. Who's used any development tool for a long time and can honestly say they've never had a single "challenge" while using it? There's a saying that unless you can name three things you hate about a programming language, you don't know it well enough to assess it.

For those that havent seen it yet, we have an object pascal compiler that generates javascript rather than exe code. It integrates with stuff like dbexpress and remobjects easily and gives you full access to the device hardware via phonegap. Use your delphi knowledge (full OOP, interfaces, inheritance etc.) to generate KILLER html apps.
