Our First Delphi Sweepstakes on Facebook and Twitter

We're trying something new with a sweepstakes to promote our social media presence as well as Windows and Mac development with FireMonkey.

You can enter via FacebookTwitter, and by attending one of our upcoming online events.

The prize is a MacBook computer with 8GB of RAM, VMware Fusion, and Windows 7. You'll have to get your own copy of Delphi, C++Builder or RAD Studio to do your Windows and Mac development with FireMonkey.

We tried to make this sweepstakes available worldwide but weren't able to, so you are only officially allowed to enter if you are a resident of the US.

Hmmm, not a great start to promoting your social media presence by announcing a competition to get us all excited and then letting us down at the end by saying that this is not for non-US residents. Best way to alienate your international customers and followers...

Aren't you able to run this competition from your local regional offices at the same time?

Facebook once again .... I have no desire whatsoever to get a facebook account ... Twitter well I can understand .. But still not interested at all. LinkedIn is the only thing I will use. And US only ... I was even tempted there for a second to open a twitter account ..

Do you have plans for Google+ page?

Very strange 'social media presence promotion' where US residents only are eligible ! I think that Embarcadero may offer XE2 licence or third party tool, no ?

Surprising limitation when advertising a worldwide social network of a worldwide product.

Like I said, we tried to make this one global but we weren't able to.

We're hoping to do a free download (available globally) as the next social media promo.

If it's that much of an issue for people and just causes a lot of complaints, we probably won't get approval to do any other sweepstakes in any region going forward.

We have a Google+ page for Delphi at https://plus.google.com/102570002721714768273.

We'll have more activity on there once Google allows multiple admins per page. Right now, only our social media manager can create new posts or update things. On the Facebook Delphi page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Delphi/155124081238065 we have four admins who can post updates as "Delphi" although I do almost all of it.

Social media presence? Is that relevant at all for a product like Delphi? Why should I look at Facebook or Twitter or Google+ or whatever to find info about Delphi and not at its company site? Check n sites instead of one?
It looks to me that more and more companies are overestimating what Facebook could do for them.
You're just helping the zuckewhatever boy to become richer without any benefit in exchange - you just make your actual customers wondering about what you're up to instead of delivering.

We've found that social media is a good way to reach users who may have opted out of receiving emails from us or don't visit the Embarcadero web site often but who may still spend hours a day on Facebook. We don't pay Facebook to be able to post things that show up in our fans' page feeds. Social media sites like Facebook are just another way to get the word out about our latest white paper, webinar or promo and reach more users and make Delphi more successful. We post those same things on the corporate site, EDN and blog about them so it's not like people are missing out if they don't follow us on Facebook. Our postings on Facebook have resulted in thousands of clickthroughs to www.embarcadero.com so far this year so I'd say it's a success.

So why can't you open this up worldwide? If it's because the licenses cost more in other areas then you should still offer it because YOU charge more in areas outside the U.S.

Facebook? US-residents only? Seriously? Are you out of your feeble minds?

If anyone can give me an example of a globally available sweepstakes with a physical prize where we can see how the terms and conditions are written, we can try to do our next one that way.
